Business Improvement Leadership - Masterclass
Building Business Improvement Leadership Capability

The UK industry is coming under more and more pressure to improve organisation operating performance, reduce cost, improve quality and schedule delivery. We are already under-performing in comparison to other G7 countries and post Brexit delivering business improvement is an imperative organisation strategy. Building business improvement capability, selecting the right business improvement methodology and driving the programme is critical to get a return on investment (ROI) and start to improve organisation performance. This workshop will present and discuss key business improvement programme challenges and opportunities that the organisation will incur on their business improvement journey, from the current state ‘a’ to the future state ‘B’, where successful business improvement is part of the new culture.

Our Programme Approach

The selection of business improvement methodologies and techniques are less important than the choice of programme implementation approach. Our approach follows 3 key phases: plan, execute and sustain. The importance of strategic alignment, benefits planning, sponsorship and change management are critical planning elements. The execution phase is about delivering improvements and benefits through employees, supported by the leadership team. Sustaining is a frequent challenge for organisations, so we advise that making business improvement part of the new culture is done by linking the organisation's score card and reward mechanisms.

Our Facilitators

Our facilitators are globally experienced consultants who have worked within the big 4 and led major change and transformation programmes for some of the world's most successful organisations. They also hold business improvement, change, project and quality accreditation from international organisations such as ASQ, ACMP, PMI, PRINCE and Shell International.

Improving UK Business Performance

The UK Industry will need to tackle Brexit by developing new markets, new products and services, and new sales. But we also need to get the most value we can from our operations, by reducing waste and improving quality. Current statics from the UK Office of National Statistics show:

~ Output per hour worked in the UK was 15.9% below the average for the rest of the G7 advanced economies in 2015.

~ Output per worker in the UK was 16.6% below the average for the rest of the G7 in 2015.

Improving business performance might have been an aspirational ‘nice to have’ for many UK organisations, but with Brexit pending it will be a must have for organisations to become more efficient and competitive in order to survive.

Business Improvement Methodologies and Techniques

There are numerous business improvement methodologies, terms and tools available to organisations to improve their business. To name but a few: Lean, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Agile Management, Re-engineering, Total Quality Management, Just-In-Time, Kaizen, Hoshin Planning, and Process Excellence. They all share common process improvement tools and the philosophy that processes can always be improved. For new business improvement programmes we suggest the following two methodologies and techniques, as they tend to provide a quick return on investment:

~ Lean Practitioner

~ Kaizen Leader

Aligning the Employee and Organisation.

To achieve business improvement it is important to identify suitable improvement methodologies and techniques and apply them to processes, services or products. However, to ensure wider organisation success it is also important to develop employee's new skills, behaviours and motivations. Additionally, employees should be aligned with the organisation in terms of systems, processes and leadership, and there should be constant communication of implementation progress.
